Background

The endocrine organs provide the hormones which control so many of the body's physiology.  A hormone is a broadly defined term.  We may be familiar with hormones such as thyroid hormone but many substances, including vitamins, may function as hormones. Although this section includes organs which are primarily producing hormones, nearly every organ in the body, including the brain, is capable of producing hormones.
